Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has promised that he and his colleagues would continue to do their job of lawmaking and providing good governance for the people of the state.

Obasa added that Year 2020 had been a year of challenges for the country, state and the Assembly, and that all those that were alive ought to be appreciative to God Almighty.

Speaking during the year 2020 annual Thanksgiving of the Assembly Chapel with the theme; “All Round Expansion,” on Friday, Obasa said that the day marked an opportunity to appreciate the goodness of God.

“I declare all of us as victorious because we are all alive. Psalm 147:1 says we should praise God. I will sing praises to God because He has done wonderful things for us.

“The theme of the programme, “All Round Expansion” was carefully chosen because the year has been challenging.

“The word “expansion” was chosen because year 2020 has been a year of pandemic and we believe that year 2021 will be for our all round blessing and expansion.

“God blessed man and said that they should be fruitful and multiply. Year 2020 has led to a new normal and concentrated efforts are being made to build resilience in all areas of endeavour.

“We are consoled by Psalm 126: 1-2 and my wish is that God will grant us all round expansion that will strengthen our faith,” he said.

The Speaker said further that the Guest Minister, Apostle Wole Oladiyun of Christ LivingSpring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) was at the Assembly last year and that he was invited to be in the programme this year based on his prophetic messages last year.

“I asked the committee that they must bring Apostle Wole Oladiyun back for the event this year. He told us that what happened this year would happen, but that we will survive it and we survived it.

“For a man to prophecy that something would happen and it happened it shows that he Is a man of God.

“We thank you for the prayers, your support and for coming to honour us today. I thank you very much on behalf of everybody in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he said.

The Speaker urged everyone to use the opportunity to improve their relationship with the Almighty God, adding that the Lord would turn their shame to honour “and may your lives be filled with a lot of celebrations and happiness.”

“We are witnesses to Coronavorus Pandemic this year and we lost some of our friends, but we are all alive today.

“We also witnessed #EndSARS and it took many lives, but we thank God because we are all here today. We had our own challenges in the House of Assembly, but it was a storm that has gone now.

“While some people prayed for us, some people were waiting to see what would happen.

“We thank God for standing by us and for saving us. That is why we are standing here to celebrate and appreciate Him for what He has done,” he said.

While acknowledging that the event was the 18th edition, Obasa promised that it would be sustained and that the Assembly had done a lot in terms of bills and Motions.

He added: “We will continue to work for the infrastructure development of the state, and work with our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy.

“I want to appeal to our people that while we exercise our own freedom, we must respect the freedom of others to ensure peaceful co-existence in Lagos State.

“I am appealing to social media people to be cautious and we want them to know that it is not in our character to gag the press. The essence of gathering here today is to glorify God and we will continue to do that.”

Earlier in his speech, the Patron of the programme for the year, Hon. Desmond Elliot stated that he was delighted and glad that the Lord made this year’s programme possible.

“It is one of the programmes of the House, which purpose is to appreciate God. It is to appreciate the leadership of the House and the state government.

“The fellowship leads prayers regularly for the state and for the needy. The programme started in 2003 with prominent men of God invited to give messages and pray for the state.

“The 18th edition had Apostle Wale Oladiyun of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry as the guest minister. He was the guest speaker last year,” he said.

The theme of this year’s edition, he said is “All Round Expansion,” and thanked the Speaker of the House, “Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. He is a daddy and a father indeed. We appreciate you as the Chief Host and for your moral support for the Assembly since 2015,” he said.

Apostle Wole Oladiyun, who spoke extensively on the theme of the programme and thanksgiving, used the opportunity to pray for the nation, the state, the Assembly and for all those, who attended the programme.

Music was supplied by The Faith Band, led by Nathaniel Bassey, while Gbenga Adeyinka 1st was the Master of Ceremony.
