Abia State Government Set To Relocate Isigate Traders, Revamp Access Roads, Infrastructure For Ubani Ultra Modern Market, Umuahia

In his unrelenting efforts aimed at revitalizing the merchandising spirit of Abians, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu has assured traders of government’s readiness to alleviate the pains traders are facing in the cause of doing business.

The Hon Commissioner, gave the assurance when he visited traders at the Umuahia Ultra Modern Market Ubani Ibeku and emphasized that the government of Dr Alex Otti is government of the people stating that Ubani Market is of great importance to this government because it is the largest market in Umuahia the capital city.

Dr Chimezie further noted that the Governor Dr Alex Otti who they supported at the polls will work assiduously for the good of Abians and hinted that government knows their plights including bad roads which is under reconstruction and the issue of Umueze -Agbo road construction which he has made know to his Excellency, adding that government is working tirelessly to move traders at Isigate back to Ubani market.

Speaking on the dilapidated shop buildings, the Hon Commissioner promised the traders that government will do all it can to see that the market becomes functional stressing that when government provides a conducive market environment, the traders will be happy and pay their levies with ease and generate revenue for the state.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Umuahia Ultra Modern Market Ubani Ibeku , Hon. Iroham Nwoko thanked the Hon. Commissioner for the visit which he said is first of it’s kind in the history of the market, thanked the governor Dr Alex Otti for his love for traders in the state and mentioned some of their challenges that are hindering growth of the market and the required revenue expected of them to include, bad roads, transportation, electricity and security. Others include placing of waste disposal trucks and the full implementation of HAB 13 law passed by Abia House of Assembly concerning markets in the state.

Hon. Nwoko pleaded with government to also rehabilitate the fire service office in case of any fire outbreak and also attract or established a rubber slippers/plastic manufacturing company in the market to help make the market more viable.

In a vote of thanks, A trader Dr Abraham Irobikansi, thanked the Hon Commissioner for the visit, describing him as a hardworking and vibrant Commissioner who has come to change the old order of administration by coming closer to the traders, and plaged their unalloyed support to the administration of Dr Alex Otti.

The Hon. Commissioner who was accompanied by the director of commerce Elder Mecha Udonsi was welcomed by market executives and traders.
