EDUCATION DISTRICT II CELEBRATES, REWARDS OUTSTANDING STAFF, OTHERS

  • Demands Excellence in Y2022/2023 Academic Session

Lagos State Education District II has recognised over 50 Teachers, Principals and Students who have distinguished themselves in advancing the education sector by winning several laurels for the State at local, national and international events.

In her address at the 16th Annual Merit award ceremony held at Oriwu Senior College, Ikorodu, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, said that the awardees were distinctive in achieving outstanding learning outcomes, through the technological method of teaching and learning, in line with the vision of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu-led administration.

Speaking on the chosen theme for the award recognition ceremony: “Technology and Excellence in Service Delivery”, Mrs. Adekanye remarked that there is a need to emphasise the significant position that technology occupies in excellent education service delivery and impactful learning.

Her words: “In today’s real-world of learning, our students can share what they are learning with students in other classrooms in other States or countries that are tracking the same expedition. Ultimately, technology allows both educators and students to expand their horizons by extending learning beyond textbooks and lectures and connecting it to the real world”.

“Technology in itself doesn’t result in effective teaching and learning. It still requires a guide (the educator) and a purpose (related to the curriculum). Our concerted efforts, with careful and methodological strategies, are required to integrate it effectively into the learning process”.

“Our efforts, are no doubt, transforming the perspective to technology from being a distraction to an effective teaching tool with positive students’ achievements which is in fulfilment of the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, especially the Education and Technology pillar”.

The Tutor-General affirmed that the award recipients built their performances on virtues of discipline, commitment, diligence, compassion, accountability and zeal for effective teaching and learning, adding that this is the time to take Education District II to a new height by creating a more distinct path for academic and co-curricular excellence in the Y2022/2023 Academic Session.

Mrs. Adekanye averred that the gift items presented to the awardees should be seen as a token of appreciation and recognition, as no gift can be commensurate with the teachers’ tireless efforts, ingenuity and ruggedness in service delivery.

Also, as part of the achievements of the District, Mrs. Adekanye informed that Education District II emerged as the first and only Education District in Lagos State to successfully defend its one-day Governor title as Oriwu Senior Model College, Igbogbo, recently produced Abdulrazak Abdukareem as the Winner of Y2021 Spelling Bee Competition.
