Speaking with the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Welby in London, on Wednesday, Buhari had said the herdsmen were trained and armed by Gaddafi.
Buhari had said, “The problem is even older than us. It has always been there, but now made worse by the influx of armed gunmen from the Sahel region into different parts of the West African sub-region. These gunmen were trained and armed by Muammar Gadaffi of Libya. When he was killed, the gunmen escaped with their arms.
“We encountered some of them fighting with Boko Haram. Herdsmen that we used to know carried only sticks and maybe a cutlass to clear the way, but these ones now carry sophisticated weapons. The problem is not religious, but sociological and economic. But we are working on solutions.”
Reacting to the president’s remark, the former minister stated that Buhari should be bury his head in shame after had previously accused former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan of sponsoring the killer group.
In a tweet, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain insisted that herdsmen were the president’s ‘boys’
Fani-Kayode wrote, “First you blamed Goodluck Jonathan for the herdsmen, then you blamed Obasanjo, and now you are blaming Gaddafi.
“Have you no shame? None of those you are blaming are Fulani and none is a member of Miyetti Allah.
“You are both Fulani and u are Life Patron of Miyetti Allah. The herdsmen are your boys.Blame Yourself!”
